Quality policy

We aim to

  • Sustain and improve the high quality of services provided by the company so as to ensure that all contractual requirements between the company and its clients are consistently achieved.
  • Provide documented assurance to clients to demonstrate that the specified requirements for the works will be, is being and has been achieved.
  • Provide complete customer satisfaction.

History

The business was set up by Steven Gray in 1986 and was incorporated in 1992, originally as MGM Preservation Ltd. It shortened its name to MGM Ltd in 1999 to reflect its developing expertise and reputation in a wider range of specialist construction services.

In February 2007 MGM Ltd became part of the Northern Bear group. In April 2007 Steven Gray was appointed as joint operations director of Northern Bear plc. Lance Rainey and Brian Young were appointed as joint managing directors of MGM Ltd.  Both men have worked for the company for many years. Steven Gray also continues to play an active part in the management of MGM Ltd and other Northern Bear companies.

Resources

We have 80 employees including three managers, four surveyors, five administration personnel and 68 on-site operatives (numbers vary).

All surveyors receive in-house training with the aim of obtaining the industry qualifications.

Operatives receive in-house training with regard to safe working practices, health and safety, risk assessment and first aid. All operatives hold CITB Construction Skills cards.

Health and safety policy statement

The policy of MGM Ltd is to seek to provide the safest and healthiest working conditions possible.

So far as is reasonably practical MGM Ltd will:

  • Provide and maintain plant and systems of work which are safe and without risk to health
  • Provide a safe place of work with safe access and egress
  • Provide a safe working environment that is without risk to health
  • Ensure safety, and absence of risks in use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances.
  • Provide adequate welfare facilities and arrangements for welfare of work
  • Provide adequate supervision as is necessary to ensure the health and safety of employees.
  • Provide adequate instruction and training as necessary to ensure the health and safety of employees.
  • Provide information including information on legal requirements to ensure the health and safety of employees
  • Ensure so far as is reasonably practicable that the conduct of MGM Ltd’s activities does not endanger persons not in the employment of MGM Ltd but who may be affected by operations under the control of MGM Ltd, e.g. Sub-contractors and the public
  • Ensure the employees are aware of their responsibilities: (a) to exercise reasonable care for the health and safety of himself and others who may be affected by his acts or omissions at work; and (b) to co-operate with the employer, as far as may be necessary, to enable him to fulfil his obligations.

MGM Ltd has appointed Prosafe Consultants as Health & Safety Advisor to discharge their legal duties and to afford him the necessary resources to carry out those duties and have authorised him to seek external advice as and when necessary to identify significant risks and precautions.

MGM Ltd expects employees to conform to this policy and to comply with the relevant legislation applicable to health, safety and welfare at work and to exercise all reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.

The overall responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of MGM Ltd is vested in the managing director.

MGM Ltd will give full backing to this policy, and will support all those who endeavour to carry it out.

Environmental policy statement

Through the adoption of a reasonable and proactive attitude to environmental issues MGM Ltd is committed to minimising potentially harmful effects on the environment and to contributing to sustainable development through balancing its business aims with environmental considerations.

MGM Ltd will meet, and where possible exceed, the requirements of all applicable legislation and regulations.

Specifically, where it is within MGM Ltd’s control or influence in both design and construction (select as appropriate), MGM Ltd undertakes to:

  • Endeavour to minimise the environmental impact of its operations and to reduce the effects of noise, dust, disturbance and inconvenience.
  • Develop management processes, operational procedures, etc. to prevent pollution.
  • Make efficient use of energy resources, taking appropriate opportunities to reduce waste and promote recycling and the use of recyclable materials.
  • Implement a continual improvement process by assessing and monitoring its environmental performance against specific objectives and targets relevant to its business activities.
  • Encourage initiatives that enhance its environmental performance.
  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to improve their environmental performance.
  • Where appropriate, consult with the local community on environmental issues.

It is the responsibility of all MGM Ltd employees to support and apply those sections of the company environmental policy and procedures that relate to their activities.

Appropriate support and training will be given to staff to ensure that they are able to fulfil the commitments given in this statement of policy.
